Making Design Circular

For 20 months I have been a member of Katie Treggiden’s Making Design Circular, a supportive community of makers and designers.

As part of my professional development I was able to continue my membership of making design circular. A programme by Katie Treggiden, writer and speaker who is researching ‘can craft save the world’. Making Design Circular is a membership community and online learning platform for designers, makers and craftspeople who want to become more sustainable.

In this membership I have learnt how to make my practice more sustainable, circular and ethical. Including becoming Carbon Literate Certified with two pledges of using only second hand or/and home-grown materials in my textiles.

I have also connected with international makers, artists and craftspeople who have inspired and supported me by sharing their own practices and struggles. The membership also includes coaching, connect calls, workshops, guest speakers and a path to sustainability call to keep us all accountable and impactful.

I had the honour of being a guest speaker myself in June this year sharing my experience of getting funding to support sustainability in the continued development of my practice.

I feel the Making Design Circular membership has been an integral part of my process, in giving me resources and learning on how to help the planet and be a contributor to circular craft. It has helped me to develop a sustainable framework which I can align my practice to.
